MoTAV: "If Syria swept aside the forces so easily why did she just `hunker down` and not take the Golan?" When the sun came up on that first morning Syria HAD taken the Golan. She had reached up to the very edge, and Israel was left in control of a thin perimeter around that edge. That is fact, Margie. It is also fact that Syria did NOT advance beyond her own territory, and showed no inclination to do so. MoTAV: "By your account Syria was strong enough to take all of Israel but refrained politely." No, by MY account Syria played her cards to the best of her (limited) ability; she took on that army of occupation and swept it aside. Her strategy was sound, as were her tactics. But the strategic imbalance was simply too great, and so the counter-offensive defeated her. Syria didn't refrain from attacking into Israel because she was POLITE. She refrained because she knew she was too weak. But CREDIT SYRIA FOR KNOWING THAT, Margie.
