I remember it well in 1969 when Saddam hanged the nine Jews from the terrified remnants of Iraq's Jewish community in the central square of Baghdad before 100,000 people who enjoyed a 'carnival atmosphere' according to Cormac O'Brian, a Saddam biographer. Their crime? 'Zionist Spies' or translated into English, being defenselessly available for revenge taking due to Saddam's impotent rage at Israel's victory in 1967. How unfortunate that justice took so long, and that Saddam was not hanged in that same square in Baghdad before an equally enthusiastic audience. 'Hearbreaking' was it, NZ? I doubt you gave a twopenny stamp for his untold numbers of victims!
