Lynn, don't know where you got your numbers from. USA daily oil consumption is around 20 million bbls day. USA is still in the top 5 of worldwide oil PRODUCERS.However because USA represents 30 % of global economy, their energy needs are huge so USA needs to import about 12-14 bbls a day in addition to their own oil production. Canadian total oil production is under 3 million bbls a day. They only supply USA with about 10-15 % of their import needs. ME supplies about 25 % of imported oil and the rest comes from Mexico, South America etc. Canadian oil is only a drop in the bucket. Interestingly Canada is both an oil exporting and importing country. Our entire Can. production meets our own needs, with a little left over. Western oil is exported and Eastern Canada imports much of the oil they need from the ME or North Sea countries.
