Being against illegal immigrations is not racism. The great majority of people who are against illegal immigration are against illegality, especially on such a wide scale. And they are not racist. They have a right to state their views and are correct in calling for legal enforcement of US immigration law. To label these people as racist does four things, imo. One is that it portrays them and their arguments and viewpoints as something immoral, evil and/or self-serving without any proof to justify it. Two, it allows the pro-illegal immigration supporters from having to respond and defend their arguments. Three, to label someone a racist without evidence is to try to limit his speech and make that speech seem irrelevant. Four, it finds those who support immigration enforcement guilty of a terrible offense without proof. Such libels may be commonplace in anti-democratic countries but they should not become commonplace here.
