but first let me just point one thing out: my distance from "there" does not affect my perception, and in fact may even optimize it by minimizing the element of subjective bias. forgive me for saying; but being in the midst of it precludes you from the same. as to the news; i'm well aware of the news prior to 5 yrs ago...and to the stumbling block presented by arafat's steadfast insistence for "the right of return". and to tell you the truth, my friend; i believe it haunted him as much as it did you. the man was very complex, and by far no saint, although in his later life i do believe he sincerely strived for peace with israel. "the right of return" is something that i will never fault him. for as much as it frustrated every attempt to attain what he wanted most and for every brink of success that came crashing down on account of it; i can't help but admire him for his never forsaking the promise he'd made countless years prior to those who were dispossessed.
