I know it is asking a lot of Bush, but he could try diplomacy with the Peshmerga and maybe even send an envoy to the PKK. They are, after all US allies. If he needs to get tough, we still could spare a brigade or two (or 10) from Japan and the western Pacific. We also have 10,000 troops in the UK and nearly 50,000 more on the Continent still detering the Soviet threat. Bush may be listening to Thompson and still thinks the Soviets are a theat. But maybe Condie could break the news to him that the Cold War is over. The Chinese aren't massing on anbody's border and neither they nor the DPRK have the sealift capacity to invade Japan.
