a: "Israel has not formally annexed territory." Then BY DEFINITION Israel is not claiming that this territory belongs to it. a: "In other words it is territory in dispute." Your "words" contradict each other. Israel is insisting that this must be CEDED TO IT as the price tag for ending this occupation, and so this isn't a "dispute", but an attempt at "extortion". a: "The palestinians can claim it." The Palestinians *do* claim it: they insist that this territory is theirs, but Israel does *not* claim it but, rather, they insist that the Pals must cede it to them. a: "So does Israel" Does anyone else notice arik's sudden change of tense? "the palestinians CAN claim it" "So DOES Israel". Arik is lying i.e. Israel does not claim it, because THAT'S WHAT "ANNEXATION" IS. Israel is insisting that this must be ceded to her, and THAT is a tacit acknowledgement that this territory is a) the Pals to give away, and not b) Israel's to take.
