I am glad you find it "regrettable" that Jews were ethnically cleansed; now if you can hold that thought and drop the rationalization about how few there were (the ones who were there were ethnically cleansed is the point) perhaps we could get somewhere. I don't know why you say Israel established the precedent of ethnic cleansing. During the 1947/48 period you mention, Arabs expelled Jewish communities from every site they overran (Morris, Arab Israeli War, in Crimes of War, ed. Gutman and Rieff, 1999, p. 32).
