The information which I wrote about was based on first hand knowledge of Syrian Jewish emigres to Brooklyn, New York. Former Congressman Steve Solarz of Brooklyn, NY personally met with Hafez Al Asad of Syria in the 1980's, and was able to spearhead their release. Other organizations arranged to have the Syrian Jews smuggled out of Syria to safety. This went on for many years during the 1980's. Of course, characters such as yourself will always point to "a few rich Jews in Syria" to show that there is no problem. The Syrians and the Iraqis are no friends of ours. Both countries persecuted, tortured, harassed, imprisoned, (in some cases executed Jews), stole the property of its Jewish residents, and finally had them expelled. In addition, Syria is known to have mutilated the bodies of a number of Israeli POW's who were captured on the Golan Heights in 1973.
