Ezreal, I am denying the rabbis POLITICAL wisdom. I am not denying them other credit such as high morality and ethics. You find among rabbis the highest standards of morality. They tend to be very special and excellent human beings, until they get involved in politics. The great Rabbi Akiva, perhaps the greatest scholar of the talmudic era, also proclaimed Bar Kokhva to be the messiah. The devastation brought about by that revolt was worse than in the Big Revolt (which culminated with the destruction of the Temple). Judea became depopulated, Jerusalem became a pagan city, and the real "galut" started then. That is what you get from mixing Rabbis and politics.
