To tie this together with the other article today on Bush. I would take Rabin over Bush anytime with regard to compassion. But I think you are right- it is buried, or in check, for it must be to kill. But there is no reason why compassion cannot or should not resurface when a military leader becomes a political leader. My other point, coming from your point, is that compassion is vital for successful leadership. This is one reason I like Yossi Beilin so much and also incidently our General Wesley Clark.
