Do we have to wait until Iran and Syria are perfect democracies before we can start criticizing the nationalist and colonialist actions of Israel? That's absurd. There will always be unpleasent dictatorships around the world, but that isn't an excuse for the Israeli crimes of occupation. Iran and Syria at least don't pretend they are democracies. Israel does. A rapist is a criminal, even if his neighbour is a murderer. And saying the rapist shouldn't be convicted because the crime of hia neighbour is far worse is rediculous. A rape is a rape, a murder is a murder, a torture is a torture, etc. (for this the old biblical saying is valid: an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth: Each crime should be punished on its own merit, independent of other crimes. It's one of the many fantastic, incredibly humane and just rules that we have learned from the Jewish Rabbinical tradition, and usually mistaken as a justification for revenge)
