LA--you are, perhaps deliberately, missing the point. Ben Gurion was NOT a Polish Jew--he had transformed himself, self-consciously and successfully into a sabra, an Israeli Jew. He did not go around speaking Yiddish, "when he spoke English" indeed--in Israel he did not go around speaking English--he spoke, with its Ashkenaz accent or no, Hebrew and there was a reason for that and an accomplishment in that. He consolidated the Israeli state around statehood--this was a mighty and epic achievement, "mamlachtot", far and away more imporant than the Zionist notion of "normality"--which is why Israeliis don't go around in militias making their political arguments with rifles. Israel will survive the current tomfoolery.
