D: "Our responsibility is to protect Israel, not the Gazans. " And I'll stop you right there, Daniel. You are quite wrong, and that error makes the rest of your post pointless. Israel invaded, seized, and occupied the Gaza Strip during and after the six-day war. That made the IDF the occupying power. Being the occupying power is not a legal license to pillage the land and to hell with the locals, Daniel. LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBLIGATIONS flow from being the occupying power, and that *includes* responsibility to manage the lands and their assests under a trustee arrangement (usufructuary) and to safeguard and ensure the wellbeing of the "protected persons" under its occupation. After 1967 Israel's responsibility WAS and still IS to protect both Israel *and* the Gazans. Now, I'm sure you don't think that is FAIR but, so sorry, that's the way it *is*, and if Israel doesn't like it then it should never have occupied the strip in the first place.
