"60 years of neurotic self deception is a hard pattern to break." How true! This conflict is only a small part of the birth pangs of the Third World in which both Israel and Palestine are caught up. Each nation must learn to detach itself from its own narrow minded dedication to an isolated past and learn to become a part of a larger world. In this new context, what was practical policy 2000-3000 years ago (defense against one's neighbors) is now paranoid neurosis (offense against one's neighbors). Nations of the world now accept each other's existence. Those who do not are left behind. Like it or not, we - all of humanity - are becoming a Third World. Those who bend with the wind and go along with this historical trend will survive. Those who fight against it are doomed to extinction.
