Mark, as usual, has a detailed and thought-out argument claiming that the Israeli government prefers starving out innocent Palestinians civilians (at the expense of S'derot) rather than dealing with Hamas or engaging in a military campaign. He supports his argument by citing Lebanon as another example of the same tactic. What Mark DOESN'T discuss is if this method of holding the civilian population responsible for what happens on its turf is effective! I suspect that the government in Lebanon is no longer going to be so cavalier about Hizballah as it was in the past. Can this kind of thinking apply to Gaza? Its hard to say. But one thing is for sure. The Israeli government is not the only one to use economic weapons in Gaza that severely affect innocent civilians. The international community ALSO been less than forthcoming about contributing to a situation that they feel only will get worse until the Palestinian people finally decide to rid themselves of terrorists.
