It will be interesting to learn what form of espionage these two performed. It doesn’t appear that either had access to classified Israeli government information. Presumably just having contact with Hezbollah is not a violation of Israeli espionage laws. In the US: "Federal law prohibits espionage when it jeopardizes the national defense or benefits a foreign nation (18 U.S.C.A. § 793). Criminal espionage involves betraying U.S. government secrets to other nations.” For example, it’s hard for a cab driver to commit espionage. But we Americans sympathize with Israel having to combat a 5th column in its midst. We have our own in the US. We have had the following problems with ours: Petty Officer 3rd Class Ariel J. Weinmann; spying for Israel. The FBI arrested a former senior NASA space scientist,Stewart David Nozette, 52, who worked in the George H.W. Bush White House space office for attempted espionage for Israel. AIPAC/Likudnik Larry Franklin Arrested for Espionage on Behalf of Israel In 1985, Jonathan Pollard, an American Jew, was arrested for spying for Israel. Pollard served as an intelligence-research specialist for the Navy's Field Operational Intelligence Office during the 1980s. August 4, 2005 American Israel Political Affairs Committee (AIPAC) operatives Steven J. Rosen and Keith Weissman were arrested on charges relating to espionage on behalf of Israel. Charges later dropped, much to boisterous and bitter FBI anger. American Jews arrested for spying on America for Cuba: Walter Kendall Myers, and Gwendolyn Steingraber Myers, 10 June 2009 American Jewish citizen, Yehuda Abraham, arrested for employing an elaborate ruse to acquire and ultimately to export nuclear weapon detonators to Pakistan. Of course, to Jews some of these people are considered heroes.
