Being rather too long in the tooth and remembering watching the tank battles of the Yom Kippur War on TV, I seem to recall that this latest action in Ramallah is an all -too familiar pattern. Every time a potential agreement nears, that might require Israel to relinquish, back down or cease control of territory or a process of dominance, 'incidents' start happening. Someone within the Knessett or within the IDF and without referral to the Knesset suddenly starts a torrent of air strikes and assassinations with days or weeks to go, in order to disrupt the road to peace by deliberately inflaming and inciting a Pal armed response, so that the Israeli hawks can then say to the world (We try, we try, and this is what they do to us - we have no partner for peace etc etc' Call me cynical but I have seen this all before by the IDF and more will follow because there are those high up who dread peace breaking out.
