Demanding recognition of Israel as a 'Jewish State' is deliberately offensive to non-Jewish citizens. It is unpleasant because it has a racist tinge about it, suggesting two classes of citizenship, It would be perfectly possible to gain Arab acceptance of the State of Israel (which Arafat of course did years ago and the Arab League has offered to do)). It would be perfectly reasonable for signatories to a final peace deal to '... recognise that the State of Israel is the homeland of the Jewish people, within which citizens of all other races and religions have fully equal rights enshrined within the laws of Israel'. The sole reason Bibi has invented this sudden demand and precondition is to block any peace talks ever getting underway. He thinks it will scupper any right of return for Palestinian refugees, but it won't - that issue will be debated and agreed separately and, although the final number may be small, it won't be affected one iota by calling Israel a 'Jewish state'.
