Israel tightened the noose as soon as they withdrew the Jewish settlers. They stopped exports, it became almost impossible to leave. They started over flying the territory at night creating deafening sonic booms, waking and terrifying children. In short they took the Jewish settlers out so they could ramp up the persecution of the people in Gaza without any of their own citizens being affected.
