"When did Israel ever give one inch of land and get peace for it?" 1974. After a war that Israel came close to losing before the US airlift, the USA forced Israel into a peace treaty with Egypt. USA paid Israel some billions of dollars to give up bases in Sinai, and $20 billion to replace what they lost during the war, and guaranteed oil deliveries. Israel reluctantly agreed to give up Sinai. Got peace with Egypt that has held for more than 30 years. When else has Israel given up land? 1956. Israel conquered Sinai the first time, and Eisenhower made them give it back. Not real peace, Israel later attacked Egypt again and took Sinai again. Israel did a strategic retreat from Gaza. A few small settlements cost way more to defend than they were worth, and occupying Sinai was a drain. Better to just wall the place off and let the people inside fight each other than have Israeli soldiers in reach for them to fight. Many Israeli airstrikes, no peace.
