They tend to forget certain inconvenient ancient Rabbinic dicta, such as the obligation of every father to teach his son a trade; or the interdiction on separating oneself from the rest of the (Jewish) public; or the wish expressed in the after-dinner Grace "not to make us dependent on the largesse of humankind, or on their loans but [only] on Your full, open and generous Hand, so that we may never be shamed or embarassed." [my translation] Unless the haredim think the tazpaying secular public is God, of course.
