Once upon a time there was the army of the West Bank – Yosh, and the IDF, and Yosh was part of the IDF but its forces served in the W Bank and Israelis neither knew not nor wanted to know and certainly didn't care much about what the Yosh units did. But though there was a 'seperateness' about the Yosh in the IDF, there was little or no concern that if the Yosh units were ordered to carry out an operation they would refuse to do it or leak it beforehand. Now we have 3 armies - the IDF which is the peoples army of Israel, the army of and for Yosh drawn from the sons and grandsons of the settlements, and the security units of Yosh, a private security force described several times in Haaretz as units with a very free hand, made of armed settlers, who 'assist' in the area's security. If we have reached the point where we have to 'bring in outside units', then we are enabling the division and ultimate transformation of the peoples army of Israel, the IDF of which we as a nation have been justly proud all these decades, into another army, a Jewish army, the army of and commanded by settlers and religious soldiers who are fellow believers in the supremacy of Elokeinu, and not the State of Israel. By allowing this state of affairs we are nurturing deep and abiding divides in our society, much deeper than we can currently discern and too deep to stop. This means our nation’s future is in question.
