Shin Bet apparently tracked the package after wondering at an enormous quantity of salt ordered by a Gaza importer with Hamas ties.18:10 03.05.16 | 0 comments
Obama did a great deal for Israel during his first term in office. He used the American veto in the security council to prevent the Palestinians from achieving statehood, he supplied Israel with arms, financed Iron Dome, spearheaded the sanctions programme against Iran and pledged that the US would not permit Iran to have nuclear weapons. What did Netanyahu do in return - expand the illegal occupation which in itself is most certainly not the only cause for the region's problems but it certainly does not help. Obama also followed the main principle of the Geneva Accord which said that the international border should be based on the 49 armistice line (green line) with negotiated land swaps. What did Bibi do in return? He deliberately misquoted him. I am sure that Obama would be happy to use the GA as a blueprint for a resolution - remember it was drawn up by both Palestinians and Israelis - but Netanyahu has shown no desire to do so. Remember the Accord rules out all but the most marginal right-of-return. establishes the new state of Palestine as a demilitarised entity and establishes an early warning system for Israel in the Jordan Valley. If Obama has decided to adopt a do-nothing tack it is because Netanayhu has done nothing to show that he wants to change the status-quo apart from planning to extend the occupation. That is not the thinking of a man who seeks 2 "just and viable" states in the region.
