Abbas is the most moderate Palestinian leader to date and Israel has repeatedly tried to destroy him politically, not because they want negotiations but because they don't. Lieberman has said who Israel cannot negotiate with - Abbas - but has never said with whom it would be willing to talk. Why - because it doesn't want meaningful talks. It is obvious that Israel's defining strategy in relation to the Palestinians is to extend the occupation, hold no meaningful talks with them and try to end any hope for a contiguous Palestinian state. The West has the muscle to bring about change, 2013 will show us whether it has the will to do so.
