I wanted to thank the two of you, especially Richman for putting this article into perspective. People admired Toynbee for the total output of his work, and some of it is thought-provoking but, please, I have never met anyone who agreed with everything he said or thought that everything he said was original. I especially like Richman's statement that if a Jew from the time before the Diaspora met a contemporary Jew, he would deny a mutual acquaintance.
