This nationality is what existed and what continues with the Jewish people. Jewish culture is of Semite culture and continues as such - for some through language and for some through religion, for some through Jewish community, for some through Israel in the homeland. Not for nothing is opposition called anti-semitic. You overstate the other people inclusion, the male line is largely semitic (inclusions of non Semitic people post Assyria and Babylon appear overstated, Edom had common Semitic heritage, and the lasting legacy of the Khazar period is limited) - even though inclusion is into the nationality culture by religion/marriage. Yes religious Jews feared the emergence of cultural nationality apart from the synagogue and some Jews have always been scared out of their nationality in tough times.
