DT: "Closing the Strait to shipping is a clearly aggressive action against Israel." I have NEVER argued that Egyptian actions were anything other than at variance with the Armistice, David. YOU need to prove to me that an Egyptian violation of a UN mediated Armistace gives Israel the right to launch a UNILATERAL armed attack on Egypt. Nothing in the Armistace agreement gives any party that right in the face of an Armistace violation. Eqypt's actions clearly violated that Armistace, but that act just as clearly was NOT an "armed attack on a member state", as required under Article 51 of the Charter. They therefore do not rise to the level required under Article 51 to allow Israel to claim "self defence". But Israel's riposte most definitely WAS and "armed attack on a member state".
