Neither jewish or arab citizens are obliged to take this oath the whole thing has been misrepresented in the media same way the bill saying that the media implied the children of illegals would be deported alone not with their families. This oath applies only to non jews who are not yet Israeli citizens but would like to be granted citizenship. Until they are officially citizens they have no right and citizenship is granted they have no rights and if they object to the oath then nobody is holding a gun to their head they are free to walk away without Israeli citizenship. Tibi's big hang up with this one is he still dreams of a palestinian right of return and if he has that he doesn't want them swearing loyalty to a jewish state. This bill is probably partly about getting the palestinians to recognize Israel as a jewish state .. non jews wanting Israeli citizenship swear loyalty to a jewish state so you have no reason to object. Palestinians recognizing Israel as a jewish state is essential to kill off the right of return fantasy and to create the groundwork for an agreement. Until palestinaians recognize Israel as jewish state then their mindset will always be Israel is part of Palestine and one day it must be liberated. Arafat always said 2 states is the first stage in the leberation of all Palestine ( Israel ). If non jews want Israeli citizenship they will take this oath its written into law now oath or no citizenship its up to them.
