I am making two points about it: 1) They restricted themselves to attacking the IDF forces in occupation of *THEIR* land, not Israel proper 2) Sadat had made repeated attempts to initiate negotiations with Golda Meir regarding the Sinai, and was rebuffed. (2) gives him an iron-clad casus belli; a CEASEFIRE is meant to be a lull to enable diplomacy to take centre-stage, and OCCUPATION is meant to be a transitory stage until that diplomacy is concluded, and Meir was making a mockery of both.
