It is very hard to put into words but you have have managed to tip-toe through your explanation because there are so many traps to fall into when trying to explain what you mean. I too, believe that, as strange as it sounds, there are a few Jews who settle on the belief that the Jews must have been punished for a reason, because otherwise, the Holocaust makes no sense. In this context, to believe they deserved their punishment makes more sense and explains the unexplainable and allows them to continue to be Jews. To do otherwise is to accept a cold and indifferent universe instead of one where God has a reason for all that happens. I feel a deep pity for Feldman because he is more a victim than he realizes.
