"i do think that the iraqis are descendents of the assyrians" Iraqis, Syrians, Egyptians, Lebanese, etc. are all Arabs whose ancestors came from Saudi Arabia and conquered Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Europe in 7 to 9 century AD. Assyrians are still alive and well, albeit a very small minority. They were subjected to the same genocide as Armenians by Ottoman Empire, hence most of them left the region and now live elsewhere. Also, since most of Assyrians are Christians, they were massacred by Muslim Iraqis in the 1930s. Assyrians and Babylonians to the south were probably were closely related Sumerian and Aramean tribes, and, according to the Bible, the first Jew, Abraham, was from that area as well. Jews and Kurds are probably much more related to the ancient Sumerians than Arabs, who were nomadic tribes much further south at that time.
