There are three events and three events only that were the basis for the existance of Israel: 1) British pullout of the Mandate due to financial concerns back home(The UK was going through a Sterling crisis). 2) Russians send arms via Czechoslovakia - so the Israeli army can fight 3) Israel wins war in 1949 These are the only three reasons Israel exists, the UN DOES not feature in them. The resolution was ignored. As and when the Palestinians get their state it will be like Israel claiming 181 "created" them and I expect in that event the Palestinians will be similarly dismissive of UN "help". The UN resolution wasn't necessary - if the above three has happened, Israel would exist without 181 - and not sufficent - if the above had not happened, Israel would not exist. Hence there is no link. In what way shape or form did 181 "create" Israel - the borders envisioned aren't even related to the 1949 armistice ones.
