is that not only would it represent essentially a modified version of what exists, it would also maintain barriers that would prevent the ease and comfort that you mention. the map of the west bank is virtually littered with settlement/outpost enclaves. maintaining them as extensions of israel would severely inhibit the contiguity of the palestinian state with an israeli presence similar to that which exists. but even MORE problematic, is that doing what you suggest would prevent the interaction and familiarity needed to remove the fears and stereotypes that prevent trust, friendship, and cooperation. meanwhile, the quickest way to remove these impediments is by interacting as equals.
