After Netanyahu says he would wait for a new U.S. president to reach a better military deal for Israel, American officials fire back.00:09 08.02.16 | 5 comments
with the demand to recognize Israel as "a Jewish state", because they were never asked to. They made peace with Israel on the basis that they would recognize "the state of Israel", not "Israel as a Jewish state". The Palestinians are offering exactly the same thing as Egypt and Jordan - recognition of the state. Through their acceptance of the Arab League Initiative which gives Israel veto power over the return of refugees, they recognize that state is going to remain overwhelmingly Jewish. So they recognize Israel as a country of Jews, but not as a country only for Jews (to the detriment of its 20% non-Jewish citizens). And they wonder why the sudden demand for formal recognition of a "Jewish state" is required only of them, not Jordan or Egypt, and why now, before final status issues are even on the table?
