Albert, you have come up with a reasonable idea. It would explain why the USA is so committed to keeping Israel armed to the teeth. However, it does not work. Israel is not a US proxy. Every time the USA might have used the Israeli military, rather than let Israeli units serve under US command the USA chose not to. In each case having Israel as an ally would have caused more trouble than it was worth. We instead were thankful that Israel cooperated by not getting involved. The USA got no value and filled no strategic needs by Israeli invasion of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, or Lebanon. In each case they were nations that we might have cultivated as allies and put bases in if we had seen the need. Egypt and Syria became cold-war USSR clients because we had picked Israel. Israel is not a US proxy because they do not do what the USA wants. Your idea made sense. But US support for Israel does not make strategic sense. There is no rational explanation.
