has remained essentially unchanged for the last 40+ years. between that and the fact that it's a part of the executive branch says ALOT about the honest views of every presidential administration throughout that time. obama's is just the latest. and the difference, bill? the difference is that the state department, being a direct extension of the executive office, has remained free from the political influence levied on congress by powerful special interests...like aipac. to put that in simpler terms: as an entity, the state department is a much more realistic reflection of american values and conscience than any body made up of politicians with various motives, both personal and political, and whose primary interest above all else, is insuring their own re-election.
