The events of 1932-34 are well-documented, with photographs that were taken secretly, reports smuggled out, books and documentaries that are all available today. The Holodomor was not merely an ancillary result of Marxism, it was a deliberate attempt to subdue and wipe out the "kulaky," the independent landowners who would not collectivize. Ukrainians are stubborn and freedom-loving. Even centuries under the imperialist regime of the Tsars could not extinguish their desire for liberty, an anathema to the Soviets. The tools, animals and all food were confiscated. Any aid to the starving was a crime. Soon, corpses and the barely living were carted off like garbage to mass graves. Entire villages were wiped out then repopulated by Russians. The Holodomor for years went unrecognized by the West. The three main reasons given were: Stalin was the ally of the West, it happened too long ago, no one wants to hear about a tragedy now. Russia, admit it and let us reconcile.
