Bernadiner is correct. The Balfour declaration created Palestine as a Jewish state in 1920. It consisted of what is now Israel and Jordan. The Hashem family had a fit because of what the Saud family got and they got nothing. Not the Brits carved off 77% of historical Palestine and created Palestine on the west side of the Jordan and Trans-Jordan (literally across the Jordan) on the east. An interesting question would be what if the east bank retained the name of Palestine, and the west bank was renamed to Trans-Jordan? You could then rename Trans-Jordan to Israel and have Palestine as the occupied east bank. Something to think about, toots. But ya really gotta read a history book once in awhile.
