"The Palestinians cannot return, but should be monetarily compensated" - I agree, it is unrealistic for them to expect to return. They would face too much prejudice and harassment. But it is important that their dispossession be recognised and restitution be made to them. Yes, a very important step, that one. And I see absolutely no sign that the Israeli government is willing to consider that. "as should the equal number of displaced Jews from Muslim counties" - yes, I agree to this as well. Very important. But not, I hasten to add, an issue for the Palestinians. They were not responsible nor culpable for this, and so this should be completely decoupled from the issue of Palestinian right of return. It has to be, of course, coz' you are never going to get restitution out of the Arab states. I note that no-one mentions Jews internally displaced in '47-'49. There must have been some living in the West Bank and Gaza, or did they not get out that far?
