Can I point out to you that before Hamas were elected to head the PA it WAS sidelined, and in all the years when Hamas were on the outside looking in absolutely Nothing Did Happen. If Hamas were sidelined again both Israel and the USA would say "Good!", and then go back to ignoring Abbas and Fatah. Jane, Israel simply doesn't WANT talks. Because to start on final negotiations means accepting the unacceptible - that the borders of Israel ends at the Green Line, and while the PLO might be willing to nip and tuck here and there it *is* *not* going to accept the loss of all that "settlement land" without an equal concession from Israel. And Israel simply wants to be *given* those settlements. For nothing. And if that isn't on the table - and it won't be - then Israel just isn't interested in talking. Period.
