"UPI NewsTrack TopNews September 27, 2007 Insurgents bomb Baghdad, Basra BAGHDAD, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Insurgents in Iraq detonated car bombs in Baghdad and Basra, killing six people and injuring more than 20 others, police reported Thursday. The Basra attack happened Wednesday night near a mosque and killed five people and wounded eight others, Kuwait's KUNA news agency report. A day earlier, a suicide bomber in the city killed seven police officers and hurt another 23. In Baghdad, one civilian was killed and three others were injured Thursday morning when a booby-trapped car parked near a mosque exploded. Soon after in the predominantly Shiite Sadr City suburb another car exploded, wounding six people, police said. Meanwhile, the U.S. military said in a statement a security operation in northern Baghdad resulted in the death of one suspected Shiite insurgent and the arrest of two others, CNN reported. The military also said a U.S. soldier was killed by small arms fire Tuesday in eastern Baghdad.
