Dear Ms.Cohn, I think if you read the thread you you note that Altalena addressed me initially by abusing a third party (implying all Arabs cheer 9/11 and the slaughter of Jews). I was raised to feel shame when third parties were subject to slurs or racist slanders in my presence. I said therefore that I would not enter into dialogue unless Altalena dropped the ethnic framing of innocents. Fortunately, she did, and clarified that the object of her contumely was only a small minority of Arabs. I asked for details, and since she replied with specifics, I happily entered into dialogue with her. I also apologised for my temerity in correcting her English. If there was anything intemperate in this, I am at fault and apologize both to her. But I will add that I am rather shocked by the violence of ethnic labelling, and contempt, characteristic of so many posts on Arabs. Older Jews who enriched my life with their learning and wisdom would, I feel, share my unease and distaste.
