You need to look at a map. Iraq does not even have an airforce -- or any other military -- that could possibly threaten them. Syria? They have no aircraft with the range to hit anything in Saudi Arabia (plus they'd have to fly past the IAF or Jordan air force to get there). To protect themselves from Iran???? How do they do that if the planes are 1200 miles from the oil fields or Riyahd?? Intercept Israeli planes on their way to targets in Iran?? Well maybe -- BUT wait a minute, I thought the claimed justification to sell the JDAMS smart bombs to the Saudis was so protect themselves from Iran. Kind of proves my point -- the Saudis only want smart weapons to attack Israel, not to "protect" themselves against Iran. This sale will run into a roadblock in Congress -- obvious to them too that the Saudis can't be trusted, especially after 9/11 and their repeated violations of promises. American voters hate the Saudis, Dem-controlled Congress needs no encouraging to oppose stupid Bush plans.
