Vandals damaged Sunday the monument in memory of 73 Israel Defense Forces soldiers who were killed in the 1997 twin helicopter crash in the northern Galilee, breaking glass and stealing coins placed in memory of the fallen soldiers.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident, but no suspects have been detained.

The monument was erected three years ago south of Kibbutz Dafna in the Galille more than 10 yen years after the soldiers perished when two helicopters collided on their way to Lebanon.

Multi-millionaire Arcadi Gaydamak donated more than $ 450,000 to its erection.
