Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri will visit the White House on May 24 in his first official trip to Washington, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said on Wednesday.

"The prime minister's visit is a symbol of the close and historic relationship between Lebanon and the United States," Gibbs said in a statement.

"The president looks forward to consulting with Prime Minister Hariri on a broad range of mutual goals in support of Lebanon's sovereignty and independence, and regional peace and security," the statement said.
