Two high-ranking city officials in the Israeli city of Kiryat Malachi have been arrested on charges of rape, extortion, bribery, and corruption.
The Israel Police Economic Crime Unit has been conducting an underground investigation on basis of information obtained by the police that the two officials had been raping and blackmailing a subordinate city employee.
The police said that it had gathered evidence establishing probable cause of several incidents of rape in different places. The woman was blackmailed, warned that if she complained harm would come to her, the police added.
The two will be brought in front of a judge in the Rishon Letzion Court to be remanded later on Wednesday.
An additional suspect, the son of one of the officials, who was arrested on obstruction of justice charges, will also face remand. The names of the suspects are expected to be released after the court hearing.
