Three nuns were killed Friday in a car accident in the Beit She'an Valley on their way to celebrate Chistmas Mass in Bethlehem. Two of the women were from Italy and the third was from Jordan.

Two other nuns who were in the car were moderately to severely injured.

The five sisters, members of the Franciscan order, have been identified as Solaria Bericoli and Rosanna Nawa from Italy, Ranya Hadad from Jordan, Savatorina Moscat from Malta and Iyam Abdo from Iraq. They had been living for the past few years at the Mount of Beatitudes Convent near Lake Kinneret.

Police said that at around 2:30 P.M. on Friday the victims' car swerved off Road 90 between the communities of Yardena and Beit Yosef in the Jordan Valley and hit a concrete foundation holding a road lamp.

Two of the women died at the scene; the third succumbed to her injuries later at Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.
