Soccer / Report: Beitar coach leaving for Romania
Coach Ronny Levy leaving Israeli team after only half a season.
Ronny Levy is to be appointed today as Steaua Bucharest's new coach, leaving Beitar Jerusalem after only half a season, according to a Romanian newspaper. ProSport's website reported yesterday on its home page that George Becali, the owner of Romania's most successful soccer club, claimed that Levy's contract with Beitar won't stop the deal. He was further quoted as saying, "When Levy heard that I want him at Steaua, he said: 'I'm coming immediately.'"
According to the report, the Israeli will be joined by manager Mihai Stoica, who worked with Levy at Unirea Urziceni, the Romanian team Levy managed two seasons ago.
The report added that Becali wanted to sign Romanian legend Gheorghe Hagi, but the latter is still hoping to be appointed as the coach of the Romanian national team. Becali also claimed he gave up on the opportunity to sign Brazilian coach and former star Ziko.
