Sept. 1 to be floating vacation day
Workers will be able to choose to take Sept. 1 off, at the expense of a day from their annual vacation.
September 1 is the day school starts. Slowly that memorable day has been attaining the status of an official vacation day. The legal system blazed the trail, deferring the end of its annual break to September 4, to give lawyers with children a chance to begin the school year more easily. Now the state is following suit.
Floating vacation days are defined as days on which public-sector workers (or private-sector workers covered by collective employment contracts) may choose to take off, at the expense of a day from their annual vacation.
The Finance Ministry has now agreed to the request by the Histadrut labor federation that September 1 become such a day. That in turn means that most of Israel's employees can take the kiddies to school by the hand without stressing about getting to work on time.
